INSIC Elects a New Chair of the Board for 2011-2012

At INSIC’s 2011 Board of Directors Meeting, which was held on the evening of August 22nd as part of INSIC’s 21st Annual Meeting in Broomfield, Colorado, the INSIC Board elected a new Chairman for the coming year – Dave Woito of Hewlett-Packard.

D Woito Dave is an R&D Lab Manager for Hewlett-Packard's Storage Division in Boise, Idaho.  At HP, he is responsible for technology development and program delivery for LTO tape drives and media.  He has 32 years’ experience in the recording industry – 15 in tape and 17 in hard disk – and has managed technology groups in the US and England. Dave likes to claim that his most interesting project was HP's 1.3-inch disk drive development in the early
1990s, also known as “Kittyhawk,” which was later studied in many business schools.  The story of HP’s Kittyhawk project is described in the Harvard Business School business case "Hewlett-Packard: The Flight of the Kittyhawk", and is a case study in the book The Innovator's Dilemma by Clayton M. Christensen.  Dave reports that he still gets contacted today by students studying that project.  He Graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1980.

Dave Woito has been HP’s member of the INSIC Board of Directors and the Executive Committee since 2003.  He has been involved with INSIC’s TAPE Research Program since 2000 and has also represented HP as a Sponsor Technology Executive for the TAPE Program since 2002.  Dave succeeds Larry Neumann of Quantum as INSIC’s Chair of the Board.
